ROOKS DOWN RUCKUS 3-1
Veterean Forward Luis Orellana Nets Two Goals in Win

The Rooks downed the visiting Redwood City Ruckus 3 – 1 in Chico on Saturday night.  Veteran forward Luis Orellana netted the first two goals for Chico.  Orellana, now 37 years of age, is the all-time leading scorer for the Rooks with 84 goals in five seasons.  With the win, the Rooks improved to 5 – 4 –4 (19 points) in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

Chico had the run of play through most of the first half creating numerous scoring opportunities.  In the 38th minute on an indirect free kick from 12 yards out Donnie Ribaudo dished a pass to Orellana who blasted a shot past the Ruckus keeper, Brad Byrns,  tomake it   1 – 0.

In the second half the momentum changed as the Rooks, having played Friday night in San Jose, began to tire as the game wore on.   In the 65th minute the Ruckus equalized on a corner kick that Sylvester Karr headed down to David Van Stockhausen who rifled a shot into the upper right corner to knot the game at 1 - 1.  Redwood City had several chances to get the go ahead goal but Rooks keeper Nick Clark denied the Ruckus with a couple solid saves for Chico.

With just four minutes to play in regulation Orellana scored the game winner as he took a pass from German Campos near the top of the box. Orellana proceeded beat two Ruckus defenders before sending a knuckling shot past the Redwood City keeper from18 yards to make it 2 – 1.   In the 90th minute Campos intercepted a pass, eluded a couple defenders and volleyed a shot over the head of Byrns.

On Friday night the Rooks fell to the San Jose Frogs 1 –0 in a make-up game that was postponed due to US Open Cup games in Seattle.   This weekend the Rooks will be on the road as they travel to play the Sonoma County Sol on Friday night in Santa Rosa and the Ruckus in Pacifica on Saturday.
