ROOKS OFF TO SEATTLE FOR REGION IV CHAMPIONSHIP

The Chico Rooks will travel to Seattle, Washington this weekend to participate in the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) Region IV Championships to be held at the Starfire Sports Complex.

Four teams from the Western Division of National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) will compete along with four teams from Region IV State Associations.  The teams will be divided into two brackets of four and play a round robin with the winner of each group advancing to the USASA Region IV Final.

The Rooks, in Group B, will face the Sonoma County Sol, their NPSL rival, on Friday night and SudaCa and Mexicali FC on Saturday.  The final is scheduled for Sunday.  Group A will consist of the Sacramento Knights and the San Jose Frogs, both NPSL teams, along with the Arizona Sahuaros and Washington FC.  The winners of each group will advance to the next round of the prestigious Lamar Hunt US Open Cup to be played in June.   The overall winner of the tournament will advance to the Final Four of the USASA National Open Cup to be held in Dallas, Texas on August 4th – 6th.

Chico has won the Region IV Championship twice (2003 and 2004) in three attempts.  In 2003 the Rooks fell to the Milwaukee Bavarians in the National Open Cup Final in Milwaukee.  The following year the Chico Rooks claimed the National Open Cup Championship by defeating the Dallas Legends by a score of  3- 1 in the final in Orlando, Florida.

The Rooks game on Friday in Seattle will double count as an Open Cup game and a NPSL regular season game.  The Rooks NPSL match with the Frogs scheduled for Sunday, May 21st in San Jose has been rescheduled for Friday, June 9th.
