CHICO ROOKS 2006 ROSTER HAS 15 RETURNING PLAYERS
The Chico Rooks 2006 squad will feature 15
players returning from last season. Two of the returning players, Brazilian
midfielder Joao Macedo and Calum Robertson were named to the 2005 National
Premier Soccer League (NPSL) All-Star team. Also returning will be the Rooks
all-time assist leader (51 assist) and former MLS Metro Star Joe Munoz and
goalkeeper Nick Clark. In 2005 Clark led the Fort Lewis University Skyhawks to
a perfect 22 – 0 –1 record and the NCAA Division II National Championship
recording 14 shutouts.
In addition to the 15 returning players from
2005, former Rooks goalkeeper Brandon Hearron (1999 – 2002) and forward Luis
Orellana (1997-2000) will return in 2006. Hearron was team MVP in 2001 and
2002 before going to play for the San Diego Gauchos and Bakersfield Brigade of
the United Soccer League. Orellana is the Rooks all-time goal scorer (79 goals)
and two-time USL National Player of the Year.
The Rooks will be without the services of both
2004 MVP and leading scorer Chris Wondolowski and 2003 MVP goalkeeper Dominic
Jakubek. Wondolowski signed on with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League
Soccer (MLS) in 2005 and Jakubek inked with the California Cougars of the Major
Indoor Soccer League (MISL) this year.
Also missing from
the Rooks lineup will be veteran defender and Chico native Joel Hurd who retired
at the end of the 2005 season after playing for the Rooks since their inaugural
